Norwegian is spoken by approximately 5 million people in total. It is the official language of Norway. As established by law and governmental policy, there are two official forms of written Norwegian – Bokmål (literally "book language") and Nynorsk (literally "new Norwegian"). Bokmål is used by 85–90% of the population of Norway. It is small differences between these two versions of the Norwegian language, and hardly all Norwegians understand both of them.
English is spoken by approximately 375 million people as their first language. English is probably the third largest language by number of native speakers. However, when combining native and non-native speakers it is probably the most commonly spoken language in the world. |
